Local Lifestyle

There are plenty of tourists filling the streets of Capitola, but the city’s full-time residents are not hard to recognize. Outfitted in shorts and flip-flops and emitting an overall laid-back vibe, the population here likes to take life slowly.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Capitola Village is the city’s most popular attraction - a downtown section filled with colorful, seaside shops and restaurants where guests can window shop and people watch. At Capitola City Beach, normally jam-packed on sunny days and during the town’s organized beach events, you’ll find Capitola Wharf, a large fishing pier that juts out into Soquel Cove. The Capitola Venetian Hotel, built right on the sand, forms the perfect multi-colored backdrop for social media photos.
New Brighton State Beach, named for the famed coastal resort in England, offers a campground, hiking trails, and sweeping views of Monterey Bay. Shadowbrook, with its quirky dining rooms and views of Soquel Creek, is a foodie paradise serving plates of fresh seafood, pasta, prime rib, and steak.
Things to Do
The Capitola Art & Wine Festival offers exceptional wines from 22 Santa Cruz Mountain wineries and displays the artistic talents of over 100 fine artists. Live music and local dance groups serve as entertainment, and guests drop into the many boutiques and restaurants in the Village during this event.
As the only enclosed shopping center in picturesque Santa Cruz County, the Capitola Mall serves area residents and tourists with more than 80 specialty stores.
